Established in November 1965 at Wacol, Brisbane, Queensland, 104 Sig Sqn was specifically raised for service in South Vietnam. The squadron replaced the 103 Signal Squadron in April 1967 and remained active until November 1971, making it the longest-serving active service tactical signals unit in Australian Army history. During its deployment, 104 Sig Sqn was integral to the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) at Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy Province, managing the 1ATF Communications Centre (COMCEN) and ensuring seamless communication between Australian and Allied units. The unit's emblem features a crocodile, symbolizing resilience and strength, reflecting the squadron's identity during its service in Vietnam.
